Life After Treatment of Breast Cancer

Now that you have completed receiving treatment, you are now free of cancer which makes you a survivor. Although you now show no evidence of cancer cells, there is a lot more you have to do as a survivor. There are a few things that a survivor must take care of.

Lowering the Risk of Breast Cancer Relapsing

After surviving cancer treatment, a patient usually wonders if they can bring about any lifestyle changes like exercises or new eating habits that could contribute to lowering the risk of relapse.

There has been numerous research done regarding the same, especially in the field of breast cancer.

Research has shown that controlling your weight, being physically active and eating healthy can help lower the risk of cancer coming back, while also protecting you from various other health diseases.

Seeking Follow-Up Care

It is understandable that a patient might get sick of hospitals and medical professionals after going through an extensive treatment regime. But it is important that you do not miss out on doctor’s appointments. These appointments involve physical examination and questions regarding how you feel or if you were dealing with any discomfort. The doctor also recommends periodical lab or imaging tests in case you have been treated for late-stage cancer. The doctor wants to examine the affected areas to see if any new cells are growing.

Another reason to seek follow up treatment is to deal with probable side effects that occur due to cancer treatments. These side effects could show up right after treatment or months or years after treatment.
